Leeming: Man charged after shots fired at home in Perth



A man has been charged after a house with children inside was shot at in the early hours of the morning in Perth’s south.Police were called to the Barra Close home in Leeming after a report of a firearm being discharged about 1.20am on Monday.“It will be alleged a man wearing a balaclava accessed the side yard of the residence and fired a shotgun through a glass sliding door into a bedroom,” police said in a statement. “Fortunately, the occupants of the residence, including children, were not injured and they fled the house in fear of their safety.”A 37-year-old man was taken into custody after his vehicle was stopped in Forrestdale just before 8.30am.Police allege they found a shotgun and balaclava during a search.“It is believed the man is known to the occupants of the residence and it was not a random incident,” police said.The Kingsley man has been charged with home burglary with intent, discharging a firearm to cause fear and exceeding a blood alcohol reading of 0.08 per cent.He was refused bail and is due to face Fremantle Magistrates Court later on Monday.Earlier on Monday, Fremantle Detective Sergeant Jason Hutchinson told reporters he could not say how many shots may have been fired.“We’ve got forensic officers at the scene and that will be established in due course,” he said.“Obviously, this type of incident is extremely scary; the kids would have been petrified. “But at this stage, as far as I am aware, they are doing as best as they can be.”Read related topics:Perth
