Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this iPhone 14 yellow!
It’s that time of year when Apple releases a new colourway of their latest flagship iPhone, which is a bonus for those who may not have upgraded to the newer iPhone 14 but are currently considering it. The new colour is available on both the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus models, and joins a line-up of midnight, starlight, (PRODUCT) RED, blue and purple colour options.
I’ve been using the iPhone 14 since its September 2022 release and it is one of my favourite iPhones yet, specifically for its durable design. Admittedly, I think the iPhone has been notably more clutz-friendly all the way back to the iPhone 12, with its improved water and dust-resistance, and specifically, its Ceramic Shield front glass.
Additionally, improved repair-ability is new to iPhone 14 devices. For this model, Apple has completely changed the internal design of the phone so that the back glass can be easily removed and replaced – or to allow access to the phone’s internals, which was previously an expensive procedure.
I’m someone who is incredibly protective of their iPhone but is nevertheless naturally clumsy, and the iPhone 14 is one phone that has surprised me with its survival of, ahem, occasional accidents.
On the iPhone 14, Apple has offered some new additions to the cameras. Firstly, they’ve updated the selfie camera (front facing camera) to offer a better auto focus, which specifically helps to focus multiple faces in group shots, even if others are a little further back from the camera than you are. This is a total upgrade for photo mode, although sometimes while filming videos – specifically within social media applications – I find the focus is not always on point. I hope Apple looks into this. Additionally, there’s an updated main camera on the back, which performs better in low light.
My favourite feature, exclusive to the iPhone 14, is also within the camera. It’s called ‘Action Mode’. This feature can be toggled on while recording videos to give you insanely stable footage. You can genuinely be filming something while running and your footage will look like you had your iPhone on a gimbal.
Apple states the new iPhone 14 offers ‘the longest battery life ever’ and through my usage over the past few months it’s been able to comfortably tackle a medium to heavy daily use and last late until the evening.
The iPhone 14 Plus, with its larger battery, is even more impressive, getting easily a full day of use with even a little battery life left to spare in the morning. The A15 chip of the iPhone no doubt helps with this as it offers better thermal efficiency and improved processing power, which is especially awesome for gaming performance.
If you’re interested in upgrading your phone, especially if the new yellow model has caught your attention, you can now purchase a yellow iPhone 14 or 14 Plus with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage. The iPhone 14 starts at $1399 and the iPhone 14 Plus starts at $1579.
